SYNOPSIS
Jigsaw is dead and his apprentice, cop Mark Hoffman comes out as a hero out of the last film's jigsaw puzzle.However, Hoffman didn't expect Agent Strahm to survive his last trap, but he did and is suspicious of Hoffman. as the Strahm begins piecing together a case against Hoffman, flashbacks showing how Hoffman became Jigsaw's apprentice are unveiled. Jigsaw also arrives in a videotape to his widowed wife, Jill, who is left a Pandora box that will probably come into play in the next installment. Adapted from the Philip Roth novel THE DYING ANIMAL, the script from Nicholas Meyer (THE HUMAN STAIN) doesn't try too hard for the audience's tears. But much of the credit goes to the cast: Kingsley and Cruz make for a sexy, affectionate couple with their layered performances, and Clarkson (THE STATION AGENT) is wonderful as always. Dennis Hopper is nicely cast as David's philandering friend George, and Blondie frontwoman Deborah Harry is very non-rock-and-roll (but incredibly genuine) in a small appearance as George's longsuffering wife. The largely classical soundtrack further adds to the film's contemplative mood.

The night begins uneventfully and Angela alleviates her boredom by playing basketball, laughing at the firemen's trousers, fiddling with her hair and generally behaving like the beautiful Catalan temptress that she is. Her wish for some excitement is soon granted as the station receives a call about an old lady trapped in a Barcelona apartment.
Manu (Ferran Terraza) and Alex (David Vert) are the firemen who respond to the emergency, with Angela and Pablo hurriedly tagging along behind. When they arrive, they find police already at the scene and the tenants anxiously gathered in the lobby. Breaking into the old woman's apartment, they find her rabid and covered in blood.
The old woman bites one of the policemen and no sooner has the entire building been quarantined by a silhouetted biohazard team than we're in familiar zombie survivor movie territory - people run from the zombies, occasionally fight back (notably with a sledgehammer) and more often than not, get bitten and become zombies themselves.

Connected – action director Benny Chan’s official remake of Hollywood blockbuster Cellular – is not the first Hong Kong rip-off of a Hollywood film, but it is the first to actually admit it. An exhilarating joyride of a movie, it trumps its original in most conceivable aspects, from the more explosive car chases to the subtler fine-tuning of its tone and character settings. Some would suggest that the product placement is better executed here, too – and who’s to argue with that?
Following an unlikely hero (Bob, played by Louis Koo) who races through Hong Kong’s cityscape to stay on the line with a kidnapped woman calling on a broken phone (Grace, played by Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu), the story’s premise stretches the limits of credibility, but works wonders as an excuse for a frenzied action movie, if not also a mobile phone advertisement. Sometimes you just have to give it to the advertisers: four years on since Cellular, they’ve now seamlessly integrated such technologies as phone map, video calling, and MMS into the tight storyline...
